Overview

Eldraagon: Legend of the Ancients is the kind of game that comes along once in a generation. Developed over six years by a dedicated studio, it delivers an open-world fantasy RPG experience that sets a new benchmark for the genre. From the moment you step into its lush, dragon-filled world, it's clear that every detail has been crafted with extraordinary care.

The game opens with a breathtaking prologue that immediately establishes its epic scale. You play as a Dragon Warden — a warrior chosen to forge a bond with one of the last living ancient dragons — and the relationship you build with your dragon companion forms the emotional core of the entire experience.

Gameplay & Combat

Combat in Eldraagon is a seamless blend of ground-based melee and aerial dragon riding. On foot, you have access to a deep skill tree spanning five weapon archetypes, each with unique combo chains and elemental affinities. The weight and impact of every strike feels satisfying, and the parry-and-riposte system rewards patient, skilled play.

Dragon combat is where the game truly shines. Mounting your dragon mid-battle and unleashing devastating breath attacks while weaving between enemy projectiles is exhilarating every single time. The AI of enemy dragons is impressively dynamic, adapting to your tactics and forcing you to constantly evolve your approach.

World Design & Exploration

The world of Eldraagon spans over 80 square kilometres of hand-crafted terrain — from snow-capped mountain ranges to ancient ruins half-submerged in tropical seas. Every region has its own distinct visual identity, ecosystem, and lore. Side quests are genuinely compelling, often revealing unexpected depths of character and world-building that rival the main narrative.

What Works

  • Stunning, diverse open world
  • Deep, rewarding combat system
  • Exceptional dragon companion AI
  • Rich, branching narrative
  • Outstanding visual fidelity
  • 100+ hours of content

What Doesn't

  • Occasional frame-rate dips on PC
  • Some repetitive side dungeon layouts
  • Slow early-game pacing
  • Inventory management is clunky

Verdict

Eldraagon: Legend of the Ancients is an unmissable achievement in game design. Despite a few minor technical rough edges, it delivers one of the most complete and emotionally resonant RPG experiences in recent memory. If you have even a passing interest in the genre, this is essential playing.
